labs/ch13: Online Eval (evidence ladder)
Following the chapter's Lab steps:
- Meet "production":
python labs/ch13/traffic.py, a deterministic traffic stream whose distribution deliberately departs from the offline set (persona reweighting + fragmented visits and two other "usages you couldn't think of"), printed side by side with thecases-50persona distribution;production-log.jsonlis the real systems' behavior log from the period when humans were handling (aligned bysource). - Replay rung:
python labs/ch13/run.py --stage replay, the traffic pours into the ch7 harness and out comes the layered report; then reconcile the fidelity gap register row by row against the production-side record (confirmed / refuted / no evidence), fix the stub and rerun for every refuted row. - Shadow rung:
python labs/ch13/run.py --stage shadow, compared entry by entry against the human decisions, out comes the disagreement rate; the ones where the human was wrong, harvest them. - Canary rung:
python labs/ch13/run.py --stage canary, a slice of traffic executes for real,monitor.py's signals go live (red-line assertions / escalation rate / the three cost columns), see which signal trips first; read the tripped trace to the end before deciding: roll back, or harvest, fix, and climb again. - Harvest 10: pick 10 from the red-line hits, the disagreements, the tripped traces, write them into the eval set, rerun the offline full suite, and watch the 91% drop, the receipt for an eval set catching up to reality.
Output lands in labs/ch13/out/ ({replay,shadow,canary}-{traces,verdicts}.jsonl);
Chapter 15's failure mining draws its pool from here by default.
Without a model API: the three stages of run.py need a real model
(MODEL_BASE_URL / MODEL_NAME); traffic.py runs fully offline on its own;
monitor.py runs offline but needs explicit inputs, for example:
python labs/ch13/monitor.py --traces labs/ch13/out/canary-traces.jsonl --verdicts labs/ch13/out/canary-verdicts.jsonl.
